Meet Ginamarie…

A color love story

It all began at a trip to the local library at approximately 12 years old. I discovered the 1980s original “Color Me Beautiful” book. I was captivated by the beautiful colors and ideas behind personal color theory. I distinctly remember returning the book only to find myself still thinking about it months later. Serendipitously not more than a year later when I wanted to check it out again, I found it again on sale for 5 cents at the same library; I still have it today.

Fast forward to 2022, when through Instagram, I rediscovered personal color analysis and was hooked. I studied and compared all the theories and methods, researched all the color innovators, saw multiple color analysts, and came to the conclusion that my love of color is insatiable and I needed to be a part of it. It is an honor and a joy to offer personal color analysis.

My Training

Not all color analysis and analysts are alike. As a friend of mine recently said, “the field of color analysis is currently like the wild west out there.” Since there is no standardization in the industry, I believed that it was most important to come to do personal color analysis based in color science and the key dimensions of color (hue, value, chroma.) The color analysis of the 1980s used a four season model (and there are still many today who use it.) However, I believe that the 12 tone system, based in Munsell color theory (the gold standard for color scientists) is more accurate. Kathryn Kalisz, the founder of Sci/Art, was an artist who revolutionized personal color analysis using the Munsell color system. She purported the 12 tone system which accounted for neutral undertones. Using Munsell theory, colors can be measured, and therefore human coloring can also be measured and understood in terms of a seasonal palette.

Before her untimely death, Kathryn only trained four women in this Sci/Art system. Each went off to develop their own model of color analysis (ex. TCI, 12 Blueprints, PrismXII, Indigo Tones). After evaluating each method, I decided to train with Nikki Bordgus (PrismXII) whom I believe is the best in the business. Nikki inherited much of Kathryn’s fabric collection and successively worked for 5 years with color scientists, measuring, analyzing and improving Kathryn’s palettes to be more precise, as she believed Kathryn would have done if she had more time.

Any one can buy a set of drapes off the internet, name you a season, and call it color analysis, but the value of an accurate color analysis by an expert is invaluable.

“I came home feeling so confident! I never felt that way! The empowerment, the feeling beautiful in my own skin, was something I never felt before.”
